BREAKDOWN
  • Piper Dobbelsteyn opened the scoring for the Pronghorns in the Friday evening matchup against the visiting, University of Winnipeg Wesmen draining the three point bucket from beyond the arc.
  • Raia Guinto answered from beyond the arc for the Wesmen in the fifth minute of the quarter, capitalizing on a three-point attempt, before following up with her second of the game over the hand of the Horns defender to even the game at 12 points. As the first quarter expired the Pronghorns led 14-12.
  • Raia Guinto continued to heat up beyond the arc to start the second quarter, evening the score for the Wesmen to start the second quarter. Kyra Collier came up with a block on the red-hot Guinto, as she looked to add to her point streak on a strong take to the hoop.
  • The Horns made a push to stretch the lead in the second corner, forcing several turnovers for the visiting Wesmen, and chalking points by doing a good job of finding the open player in transition. After half, the Pronghorns were up 34-17.
  • Lethbridge did not give Winnipeg any room through the third quarter, keeping the Wesmen at 17 points until Jazmin Birch was successful on both free throw attempts off Pronghorns foul five minutes into the quarter.
  • Abby Graves and Tobore Okome put in work in the paint for the Horns to start the second half, and with a coast-to-coast layup by Viktoriia Kovalevska, the Pronghorns extended the lead to 26.
  • Winnipeg struggled to gain offensive momentum throughout the third but were able to capitalize from the line to finish the quarter with the Horns ahead 50-29.
  • In the fourth quarter, both teams continued to grid, forcing turnovers for the opposition, with neither team able to go on a sustained, missing a number of shots down the stretch. The Horns outlasted as the final clock expired, defeating the Wesmen 66-48.
