CALGARY – A 19-point run to end the match saw the Lethbridge Pronghorns pick up a 26-7 road win in their first game of the season against the University of Calgary Dinos women's rugby team on Saturday afternoon.

Tied 7-7 going into halftime, Lethbridge took control of the game after the break and now opens the season with a 1-0 record, while Calgary drops to 0-2 with defeats against their provincial rivals.

The Pronghorns started the scoring off in this game with a try in the 27th minute by Payton Viney. She swung to the left side of the field rushing the ball in and down into the end zone. Verity Fex completed the conversion to make it 7-0.

Makayla Joseph put the Dinos on the board in the 34th minute after a stellar pass from Maddy Tumato.

Tumato received the ball down the line from the left side of the field, as the Dinos progressed towards the try line, and sent the ball to Joseph as she rushed down the sideline into the centre of the end zone for a Dinos try. Tumato made the kick after to even the score. 

The 'Horns regained the lead in the second half with Charli Helland as she scored her first try of the match. Off a Pronghorns scrum, Helland received the ball and took to the right-side line to speed around the Dinos and over the try line to put the road team back ahead.

Lethbridge went on to score two more tries in the 75th and 79th minute by Mackenzie Hutton and Helland, with both completed conversions by Fex.

The Dinos and Pronghorns will take the field for a rematch on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Lethbridge.
