Horns Fall to Bisons 79-63 Despite Second-Quarter Surge

WINNIPEG – The Horns couldn't keep pace with the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night, as the Herd pulled away for a 79-63 victory at the Investors Group Athletic Centre. The win pushed Manitoba's record to 5-1, leapfrogging the Pronghorns, who dropped to 5-2. Depth was the story of the night, with both teams rotating freely, as 22 players saw action. Veteran forward Cieran O'Hara led Manitoba with a career-high 17 rebounds and a strong inside presence, while Mason Kraus added 17 points and three blocks. The Horns fought back with an inspired performance from Angelo Mbituyimana, who scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but no other Pronghorn managed more than nine points. The Bisons were dominant on both ends, holding Lethbridge to 33.8% shooting and forcing key turnovers in the second half. Despite a strong second quarter for the Pronghorns, the Bisons' defensive pressure and depth proved too much.

Q1

  • Manitoba took an early lead with a strong defensive effort, holding Lethbridge to just 21% shooting. The Bisons led 19-11, with Mason Kraus and Brandt Lenz combining for 15 of Manitoba's 19 points. The Pronghorns struggled to find a rhythm, shooting only 4-19 from the field.

Q2

  • Lethbridge bounced back in the second, improving to 46.7% shooting and hitting five three-pointers, but still trailed by six at the half (41-35). Mbituyimana scored 11 of his 23 points in the quarter, keeping the Pronghorns in the game. Manitoba's depth continued to shine with Tito Obasoto adding 10 points, including eight in the third.

Q3

  • The Bisons extended their lead to 62-53 by the end of the third. Lethbridge continued to struggle with their shooting, hitting just 44.4% of their attempts and only one of six from beyond the arc. Manitoba's defense was key, limiting Lethbridge to only eight points in the paint.

Q4

  • Manitoba sealed the win with a strong finish in the final quarter, outscoring Lethbridge 17-10. Despite a 75% shooting clip from the free-throw line, the Pronghorns couldn't generate enough offense, as O'Hara's 17 rebounds and the Bisons' defense controlled the tempo.
