Pronghorns Fall to Vikes in 54-5 Setback

VICTORIA –The Pronghorns fell 54-5 to the University of Victoria on Thursday evening at Wallace Field. While the Horns put up a strong fight, they were unable to overcome a powerful performance by the opposition. Eden Wilson managed to score the sole try for Lethbridge, struggling to break through the Vike's disciplined defense.

BREAKDOWN

  • Victoria quickly took control with early tries from Maelle Reed, Emily Findlay and Olivia Newsome, along with a Kira Peary convert, building a 17-0 lead within the first 15 minutes.
  • Kayleigh Noel sparked a promising offensive move for Lethbridge in the 22nd minute, pushing past the Vikes' 22-metre line for the first time, but their advance was halted by Victoria's defense.
  • The Vikes extended their lead with a try and convert from Peary and a try by Ivy Poetker, pushing the score to 29-0 halfway through the first half.
  • Lethbridge's Morgan Davidson made a notable run, but a spilled ball on the left sideline turned possession back to Victoria.
  • Poetker added another try for Victoria just before halftime, sending the teams to the break with a score of 34-0.
  • The second half saw Peary add a penalty goal for the Vikes, followed by a try from Marina Skakun and a convert from Hadley MacPherson, pushing Victoria's lead to 44-0.
  • In the 68th minute, Eden Wilson broke through to score Lethbridge's lone try, narrowing the gap to 44-5.
  • Victoria rounded out the game with tries from Charlotte Hilton and Gwynnie Fry in the 75th and 80th minutes, respectively, bringing the final score to 54-5.
