LETHBRIDGE – The stage is set for an exhilarating home opener as Pronghorn Women's Rugby gears up for a high-stakes match against the University of Alberta Pandas. Kicking off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, the game will conclude the Horns Triple Header under the lights at University of Lethbridge Community Stadium. This match also marks the first leg of the Suggitt Cup series. With Alberta having edged out the Pronghorns in the Canada West Championship bronze medal game last season, the game promises to be a highly competitive rematch.

With the Pronghorns entering the season ranked fourth and the Pandas just behind at fifth, this match holds significant importance. It also marks the first leg of the Suggitt Cup series, a tribute to the late Ric Suggitt, whose legacy continues to inspire both programs.

Head coach Graeme Moffat, now in his fourth season, is eager to see how his team performs. "We're looking forward to seeing our young squad, who are maturing, continue to flourish," Moffat says. "We have prioritized connection in preseason and want to see that translate onto the field. Playing at home is always special for us and the Triple Header is a fantastic event."

The Horns have integrated several new players into their lineup this year. "New players have integrated really well and added to the environment," Moffat notes. Key newcomers include Jacqueline Bangoura, who brings valuable experience and leadership and Tayah Perry, known for her versatility and work ethic. Sydney McDonald's athleticism and speed are expected to challenge opposing defenses effectively.

Veteran players including Payton and Teagan Viney, Mackenzie Hutten and Rebecca Powell, will play crucial roles in leading the team. Hutten enters refreshed after summer break and ready to take on the captaincy, while Powell continues to be a leader for the team.

With 12 players making their Pronghorn 15s debut, anticipation is high. "We're excited to see these new talents step up," Moffat adds. "Even though we've faced some setbacks, the team's spirit and determination remain strong."

As the Pronghorns prepare to take on the Pandas, the atmosphere at the Community Stadium is set to be vibrant for full day of Pronghorns action.
