Box Score POST GAME
LETHBRIDGE – On a hot Sunday afternoon at the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium, the Pronghorns Women's Soccer team faced off against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. Coming off a win against the Manitoba Bisons, the Pronghorns looked to carry their momentum, while the Wesmen were determined to bounce back after a tough opening loss. Despite back-and-forth action, the Horns persevered, earning their second win of the weekend in front of home fans.
BREAKDOWN
- The Wesmen made an early statement, opening the scoring in the 11th minute as Sydney Arnold found the back of the net off a well-placed assist from Jazmyn Castro, marking their first goal of the season.
- Despite the early setback, the Pronghorns kept their composure and worked their way back into the game. Just before halftime, Jorah Herle responded for the Horns, finding the equalizer to level the score at 1-1.
- The Pronghorns kept pushing for a lead, with Kiandra Boulter creating a promising opportunity in the 42nd minute from the right side. Her shot looked dangerous, but Wesmen keeper Taryn Raabe came up with the key stop. Moments later, Grace Klassen delivered a beautiful pass to Bronwyn Pittman, who fired a shot on goal, but Raabe came up big once again, denying the Pronghorns the go-ahead goal right before the break.
- Heading into halftime, both teams were locked in a 1-1 battle, with neither side willing to give an inch. The second half saw the Pronghorns come out strong, and in the 54th minute, Boulter tested Raabe once more, but the Wesmen keeper continued her stellar performance, keeping Winnipeg in the game.
- The turning point came when a Wesmen yellow card gave the Pronghorns a chance to take control. Viktoria Birglechner launched a powerful shot that Raabe managed to block, but she couldn't control the rebound. Hailey Slobodian was quick to react, putting the ball into the back of the net to give the Horns a 2-1 lead.
- In the final minutes of the match, Slobodian struck again, this time securing her fourth goal of the weekend with a clinical finish, extending Lethbridge's lead to 3-1. The Wesmen fought until the end, but the Pronghorns' defense held firm, and their attack proved too much to handle.
