Playoff-Bound! Pronghorns Clinch Postseason Spots with Grit and Dominance

10/14/2025 10:58:00 AM

| Box Score 2 It was a compelling weekend for Pronghorn Athletics, where the men's soccer and women's rugby teams battled hard on the road to each clinch a playoff spot in the upcoming post season.

Pronghorns Clinch Playoff Spot with Gritty Draw in Saskatoon

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's soccer team earned a crucial point on the road Sunday afternoon, battling the Saskatchewan Huskies to a 0–0 draw to officially secure a Canada West playoff berth.

In a defensive showcase, the Pronghorns held their ground against one of the conference's top attacking units. Goalkeeper Tegan Romaine recorded seven saves en route to his third clean sheet of the season, backstopping a composed back line that absorbed sustained pressure throughout the match.

Lethbridge's defensive core, led by Nic Bilodeau and Kyle Boel, limited Saskatchewan's quality scoring chances and kept the hosts off the board despite a late push in the second half. Offensively, the Pronghorns created several promising opportunities of their own, with Will Hughes, Ben Gingrass and Sam Okawa leading the attack and forcing the Huskies keeper into key stops.
The draw extends Lethbridge's unbeaten streak to three matches and guarantees the program a return to the Canada West playoffs. The Pronghorns' postseason seeding will be finalized following the completion of next weekend's conference schedule.

Lethbridge closes out the regular season at home with two matches at Community Sports Stadium, hosting the MacEwan Griffins on Friday, October 17 at 5 p.m. before celebrating Senior Day on Sunday, October 19 at noon against the Alberta Golden Bears, honouring graduating players Will Hughes, Karim Bey, Kai Sakaguchi, and Tyrel Cook.

Women's Rugby: Horns Finish Strong with Statement Win

The Pronghorns women's rugby team closed out their regular season in style, powering to a 55–14 victory over the Calgary Dinos on Friday at Hellard Field. It was an all-around performance that blended precision, pace, and poise, punctuated by an explosive offensive display and disciplined defense.

Fourth-year standout Charli Helland led the charge, scoring twice and commanding the lineouts, while Mackenzie Hutten, Rehema Holaki, and Elizabeth LePage each crossed for tries of their own. Kayleigh Noel added a pair of conversions to cap off the Horns' scoring surge.

Beyond the result, the match was a celebration of the team's growth and spirit throughout the campaign. The Horns executed their game plan with confidence, controlling territory and maintaining defensive shape through all 80 minutes.

With the win, Lethbridge concludes its regular season on a high note, establishing strong momentum heading into the Canada West Championship tournament kicking off Thursday afternoon in Edmonton, hosted by the Alberta Pandas at Foote Field. Semifinal action begins with the second-seeded UBC Thunderbirds taking on the third-seeded Lethbridge Pronghorns at 1 p.m. MDT, followed by the top-seeded Victoria Vikes facing the host Alberta Pandas at 3 p.m. MDT.
