The University of Lethbridge community came together on September 20, to celebrate the life and legacy of Marcus "Karps" Karpati with the official opening of Karps Korner at Community Stadium.

The new gathering space and children's mini-field were unveiled as a lasting tribute to a teammate, mentor, and friend who left an enduring impact on the Pronghorn family and beyond.

Family, friends, alumni, and supporters filled the stadium entryway for the heartfelt event. Among those in attendance were Marcus's parents, Joan and Julius, his wife Kathy, and Kathy's mother, Sue, alongside countless friends and teammates who have supported the MK4 Fund since its inception.

The newly dedicated Karps Korner features a striking mural with Marcus's iconic #4 at its centre, blending Pronghorns colours with imagery of Lethbridge, Victoria, and youth at play. The space is designed as a hub for connection, reflection, and celebration, ensuring future generations of Horns athletes and fans feel the presence of Karps's humour, strength, and heart.

"As an athletic department, we talk often about legacy, about the impact that goes beyond wins and losses. Karps Korner represents exactly that. It's more than a space—it's a living reminder of the values Marcus embodied: kindness, leadership, perseverance, and joy. For our student-athletes, alumni, and community, this initiative ensures that every time we gather here, we're reminded of what it truly means to be a Pronghorn" said Spencer Pommells, Director of Athletics

The vision for Karps Korner was brought to life through the generosity of alumni, friends, and families who contributed to the MK4 Fund, as well as the artistic vision of Jenn Roberts, whose mural captures Marcus's spirit. The day's celebration included games on the brand-new MK4 mini-field, family activities in the fan zone, and the much-anticipated Pronghorns triple-header, highlighted by the men's match where Marcus was honoured with the MK4 Ball Presentation at kickoff.

Karps Korner now stands as a permanent reminder of the power of community and the values Marcus lived by: kindness, perseverance, and joy in the journey.
