Box Score 4 It was a weekend of mixed results for University of Lethbridge Athletics, highlighted by a strong performance from the men's soccer team at home, while the women's soccer and rugby squads faced tough tests on the road.
Women's Soccer
The Pronghorns women's soccer team had a difficult two-game set against Mount Royal University. On Saturday, Lethbridge showed resilience but ultimately fell 4–1 to the Cougars. Viktoria Birglechner scored the lone Pronghorns goal from the penalty spot early in the second half, but Mount Royal responded quickly to regain momentum and secure the victory.
Sunday's rematch in Calgary saw the Horns battle hard defensively but fall 2–0. An own goal late in the first half gave MRU the edge before a second tally in the 76th minute sealed the result. Goalkeeper Kate Prince made several key saves to keep her side in the contest, but the Horns were unable to generate the equalizer. With the results, Lethbridge drops to 0-9-1 on the season as they continue their pursuit of a breakthrough win.
Rugby
The women's rugby team squared off against perennial powerhouse UBC and were overpowered 86–0 in Vancouver. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Horns opened the match with early offensive pressure and later tightened their defensive structure in the second half to limit opportunities. The Thunderbirds' dynamic duo of Adia Pye and Charity Williams combined for nine tries, showcasing the challenge of facing one of the top sides in the conference. Lethbridge will look to regroup as they close out the regular season.
Men's Soccer
The highlight of the weekend came at Community Stadium, where the Pronghorns men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 2–1 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies. Karim Bey opened the scoring in the 24th minute with his first goal of the season, while Kai Sakaguchi added an insurance marker in the 70th—his team-leading fifth of the year.
The Horns controlled much of the play, firing 18 shots with 11 on target and forcing the Huskies' goalkeeper into nine saves. At the other end, keeper Tegan Romaine was steady, stopping five shots to preserve the lead. Saskatchewan scored in stoppage time, but Lethbridge held firm to claim the win and improve to 2-3-3 on the campaign.
