Box Score 4 The Pronghorns men's and women's basketball teams kicked off the second half of their season at the Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness this weekend, with both teams winning back-to-back games against the Grant MacEwan Grffiins. The women took down the MacEwan Griffins 60-47 on Friday night and 63-53 on Saturday, and the men won 97-82 on Friday and 67-64 on Saturday.

Despite a slow start in the 1st quarter on Friday, the Pronghorns were able to rally back with a particularly strong 2nd half as they outscored the Griffins by 15 in the 2nd half, including a 20-point 4th quarter. The Pronghorns were led in scoring by Rae Wedman as the first-year guard chipped in with 12 points off the bench for the home team in an efficient outing which included 5-7 from the free throw line

Saturday's first quarter felt similar to the night before, with a slow start in the first half, and a quick comeback in the second. Courtney Mckee led the scoring with 17 points, followed by the team's only fifth-year player, Kamryn DeKlerk claiming second with 11. Mhari Mattuli held strong in the paint and added 16 rebounds to her stats, while also playing more than 32 minutes.

The Pronghorns improve to 4-10 with the victories, MacEwan is still in search of their first win of the season as they fall to 0-12.

The Pronghorns were fueled by a 69-point first half where they shot 13-17 from behind the 3-point line. The Griffins fought back in the 2nd half cutting the lead to as little as 7 points halfway through the 4th but in the end the Pronghorns were able to keep them at bay led by 35 from Kymani Pollard on a very efficient 4-8 from 3 and 11-13 from the free throw line.

Saturday's game was a nail bitter all the way until the final buzzer. Â The leading team was never ahead by more than 5 points throughout the full 40 minutes. Tensions were high by the 4
th quarter, with both teams in bonus with 5 minutes left and a score of 63-60, but Horns got the job done, with Pollard again leading the scoring with 24 points, and Jaxen Perrett picking up 9 rebounds. Â

The Horns are back for their last home games of the year this weekend on January 16 and 17
th against the USask Huskies. The women play at 6 p.m. and 5 p.m., while the men follow at 8 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively. Between the games on Saturday, the two teams will celebrate their graduating athletes at senior night! Catch the action live at the Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness!
