Under the bright lights in Saskatoon, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns track and field team delivered a championship performance to remember at the Canada West Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Saskatchewan.

The Horns competed in a variety of events during the event in hopes of qualifying for next weeks U SPORTS Championships.

On the track, Lauchlan Irish added to the medal count with a strong showing in the men's long jump, soaring to a bronze medal with a leap of 15.32 metres. Senior Makayla Dickinson placed 6th in the event as well (11.27m). Kimoya Edwards and Orion Legg both placed 4th in 60m hurdles with a time of 8.46 and 8.58 respectively. Teammate Kya Marsden finished 10th in the women's event.

Leading the charge in the field events was Jinaye Shomachuk, who etched her name into the record books in spectacular fashion. With a throw of 20.77 metres, Shomachuk shattered the Canada West record in the women's weight throw to capture gold. The record was previously held by Horns alumni and recent Hall of Fame inductee, Heather Steacy. But Shomachuk wasn't finished there. The dominant thrower stepped back into the ring and claimed a second gold medal in women's shot put with a mark of 13.89 metres, completing a remarkable double-gold performance. Finishing in 5th, 6th and 7th place in the women's weight throw division were Kate Johnson (15.76m), Avery Sluik (14.59m) and rookie Brooke Bentley (14.09m). Reise Dolan on the men's side of the event captured a 5th place finish with a throw of 14.97m.

Shomachuk's historic weekend also earned her two of the conference's highest honours: Canada West Women's Field Event Athlete of the Year and Women's Outstanding Performance of the Meet,  a testament to her consistency, power, and competitive edge on the biggest stage.
