The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns wrapped up a busy and demanding weekend on the road, competing across basketball, track and field, and women's rugby 7s. Against strong Canada West competition, the Horns continued to show resilience, competitiveness, and steady growth, with several standout performances highlighting the weekend and setting the tone as championship phases draw closer.

In Edmonton, Pronghorns basketball closed out the regular season against the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas, facing physical play and deep lineups in a challenging Prairie Division matchup.

On the men's side, Lethbridge delivered a statement performance Saturday night, earning a hard-fought 75–72 victory over the Golden Bears at the Saville Centre. Fifth-year guard Kymani Pollard was exceptional, pouring in a game-high 33 points in one of the most dominant performances of his career. Pollard set the tone early, attacking the rim and finding open looks, and continued to shoulder the offensive load throughout the night. His ability to score at all three levels helped the Pronghorns control the physicality of the game and stay composed in the closing minutes.

The Horns jumped out to an early lead and maintained their edge through defensive intensity and rebounding, responding to Alberta runs with timely stops and confident execution. Down the stretch, Lethbridge showed poise, securing key defensive rebounds and converting when it mattered most to seal the three-point road win. The victory allowed the Pronghorns to finish the season at 7–13, closing the year on a high note against one of the conference's top programs.

On the women's side, the Pronghorns faced a deep and experienced Alberta Pandas squad. Lethbridge battled through a physical and defensive weekend, showing strong effort on both ends of the floor despite the final scores not falling their way. In Saturday's finale, Mhari Mattuli and Asia Wells led the Horns offensively, providing steady scoring and energy as the Pronghorns continued to compete deep into the game.

While the results did not reflect the full effort, the weekend provided valuable experience for a Lethbridge group that continued to defend with intensity and generate quality looks against elite Prairie Division competition. The Horns closed the season having gained important reps against one of the top defensive teams in the conference.

Track and Field
The Pronghorns also made their mark on the track, delivering another weekend of standout performances highlighted by record-breaking throws and championship momentum.

Leading the way once again was Jinaye Shomachuk, who continued her remarkable season with a dominant showing in the women's weight throw. Shomachuk captured first place with a massive 21.22m throw, setting a meet record and further solidifying her position among the nation's elite. She followed that performance by claiming another victory in the shot put, launching a 13.88m throw to set yet another meet record. Shomachuk's consistency and power anchored a strong weekend for the Pronghorns throws group.

On the men's side, Lauchlan Irish delivered a championship-caliber performance of his own, winning the triple jump with a 15.19m effort. Lethbridge now turns its attention to the Canada West Championships on February 20, carrying momentum and confidence into the final stretches.

WRug 7s
Women's Rugby 7s rounded out the weekend with a demanding slate of Canada West competition, pushing several matches deep into the second half and continuing to build chemistry and confidence as the season progresses.

Horns opened Day 1 with a hard-fought battle against the top team the UBC Thunderbirds losing 40-0. However, they came back hard against the Alberta Pandas in a tightly contested matchup. Lethbridge struck first-half momentum through tries from Dori Miller and Ainsley Maxwell, taking a 10–5 lead into halftime. Alberta responded after the break with a converted try, narrowly edging the Horns 12–10 in a match defined by physical defence and small margins. In the last game of the day, Horns gained a hard-fought win against the Calgary Dinos. Millie Teskey scored two tries and Jayda Morrison converted both to edge out the Dinos 14-10.

On Day 2, the Pronghorns opened with a 33-5 loss to the Victoria Vikes but ended the tournament with determination against the Trinity Western Spartans. Seq'hiya Simmons delivered a standout performance, scoring two tries, while Morrison added another as Lethbridge continued to apply pressure and respond to TWU scores. Despite the final result, the Horns demonstrated grit and resilience throughout the match.

Horns Rugby continue to grow as a unit in each tournament. The women now look ahead to their final stop in Vancouver on March 6–7, aiming to carry forward the progress shown this weekend.
