The Lethbridge Pronghorns had a busy and successful weekend across multiple sports, highlighted by four medals at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships and a competitive showing from the women's rugby sevens team.
Leading the way for the Pronghorns in Winnipeg was standout thrower Jinaye Shomachuk, who captured the national title in the women's weight throw with a record-breaking toss of 20.77 metres. Shomachuk added a second medal to her weekend by earning silver in the women's shot put, recording a throw of 14.19 metres to secure her place on the podium for the second time at the national championships.
On the track, Kimoya Edwards delivered a strong performance in the women's 60-metre hurdles, racing to a bronze medal with a time of 8.33 seconds. Lauchlan Irish also reached the podium, earning bronze in the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.61 metres, rounding out a four-medal performance for the Pronghorns at nationals.
Meanwhile, the Pronghorns women's rugby sevens team competed in the final 7s tournament of the year in Vancouver. Lethbridge battled throughout the weekend, gaining valuable experience against some of the top programs in the conference and came away with a 27-19 win over the Calgary Dinos.
