REGINA – The Horns Women's Soccer team picked up a long-awaited victory Saturday night, earning a 1-0 win over the University of Regina Cougars on the road.
The victory marks the Horns' first win in more than two years and the first victory for head coach Cedric Bovon at the helm of the Pronghorns.
Lainey Fischer scored the game's lone goal in the 21st minute, finishing off a corner from Myah Stemmann to give Lethbridge a 1-0 lead.
From there, the Horns' defence held strong, limiting the Cougars to just three shots in the second half. Goalkeeper Heidi Andres made six saves to preserve the shutout and secure the win.
Both teams finished with 10 shots, while Lethbridge recorded five shots on goal compared to Regina's six.
The Cougars continued to pressure late, but the Horns held their ground to close out the 1-0 victory and celebrate their first win of the season.
The win moves the Horns to 1-3-0 on the season.
