LETHBRIDGE - The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns and UFV Cascades played to a 0-0 draw Friday night at Community Stadium, with both teams earning a point in a tightly contested Canada West matchup.
Lethbridge created the first opportunities of the night, with Bronson Schlichter sending a shot wide in the opening minute before Alessio Gusciglio tested UFV goalkeeper Matheus De Souza twice in the opening 16 minutes. Cornel Safsaf also forced a save from De Souza in the 15th minute.
UFV generated chances of its own as the half progressed. Mateo Brazinha had an effort blocked in the 26th minute, while Spencer Mellett forced a save from Lethbridge goalkeeper Tegan Romaine in the 32nd minute. The teams entered halftime still scoreless.
The second half saw chances at both ends. Romaine stopped Brazinha early in the half before Brazinha sent another effort high. Gusciglio continued to create opportunities for the Pronghorns, having one shot saved and another blocked in the 54th minute. Schlichter later sent a header wide right, while UFV's Marcus D'Andrea also put an attempt wide.
Both teams continued to push for the opening goal in the final stages. UFV's Ebi Igali sent an effort high in the 77th minute, while Lethbridge's Joel Jaravata had a shot blocked in the 88th minute. Neither side was able to find the breakthrough, with the match finishing 0-0.
Romaine finished the match with two saves for Lethbridge, while De Souza recorded four saves for UFV. Lethbridge registered nine shots, including four on target, while UFV finished with seven shots and two on target.
