Female Athlete of the Week:
Montana Forsyth – Women’s Track
Fourth-year science student, Montana Forsyth earned the Pronghorn female athlete of the week after narrowly missing the podium last weekend at the Canada West Championships in Winnipeg.
Heading into the weight throw event, Forsyth was ranked fifth, but with a best throw of 14.11 metres, Forsyth finished fourth. The throw was a season best for Forsyth and missed a podium finish by just 83 centimetres.
She also finished 11th in the shot put event with a throw of 9.79 metres.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Peter Millman – Men’s Track
Third-year University of Lethbridge Pronghorn thrower Peter Millman continued his dominance in the throwing circle this season by winning a pair of gold medals this past weekend at the Canada West Championships. In addition to his two gold medals, Millman was also named the Canada West Field Athlete of the Year.
The Truro, Nova Scotia native opened the Championship meet with a gold medal in the weight throw, winning the event by nearly four metres with a throw of 18.24 metres.
On the final day of the meet, Millman took gold in the shot put event and led the Pronghorns to a sweep of the podium of the event with a personal best toss of 17.23 metres. The podium sweep marked only the third time in Canada West history that a men’s team swept the podium of an individual event.
Millman was also named the Canada West third star for the week.
