Female Athlete of the Week:
Nicole Ronsky – Women’s Rugby
Playing on the national stage for the first time, fourth-year wing Nicole Ronsky did not disappoint this past week at the CIS Women’s Rugby Championships in Kingston.
With precise tackling she was a stalwart defensively for the Pronghorns and with the ball in her hands she was a consistent threat offensively. She scored three tries during the tournament, including a exceptional solo effort Sunday afternoon, where she raced away from Victoria Vikes defenders from behind half for one of two tries on the day.
In addition to be named a Second team All-Canadian, Ronsky was also named to the CIS Championship tournament All-Star team.
Male Athlete of the Week:
Tim Campbell – Men’s Hockey
Fourth-year defenseman Tim Campbell was a key component in the Pronghorn men’s hockey team’s first sweep of the season, beating the CIS eighth ranked UBC Thunderbirds both Saturday and Sunday and extending the team’s winning streak to three games.
While being held scoreless Saturday night, Campbell was instrumental in the ‘Horns holding the Thunderbirds to only two goals and was a key member of the ‘Horns penalty killing unit that held the T-Birds off the scoreboard during three opportunities.
Sunday afternoon, Campbell provided all the offence for the ‘Horns scoring twice including the ovetime winner with 27 second remaining in the first overtime.
On the season, he has six goals, two of which are overtime winners.
