ABBOTSFORD, BC - The Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 2-0 at Bateman Park on Saturday.
With the win, UFV improves to 3-2-2 for 11 points, unbeaten in three matches. Lethbridge falls to 0-6-1. The Cascades host the Calgary Dinos (3-2-2) on Sunday at 12:00 p.m., while Lethbridhe travels to Victoria for a match with the Vikes, also at noon.
The Cascades played a strong match today holding Lethbridge to no official shots on goal as veteran goalkeeper Chantelle Biagioni earned her first shutout of the 2011 regular season. The Cascades controlled the majority of play in the midfield and the UFV defenders kept the Pronghorns forwards from any quality chances the entire match.
The Cascades scored once in each half, as Chelsea Steffen scored her first goal of the season at the 31st minute off a great pass from Ellen Kuyer. The Cascades second goal scored in the 88th minute by captain Megan Webster, her third of the campaign on her second penalty kick of the season.
The 'Horns conclude their weekend series Sunday in Victoria versus the Vikes.
