MSOC - Levis and the Huskies Blank Horns

10/15/2011 10:52:00 AM

Lethbridge – The Saskatchewan Huskies scored in the first minute and rode that early goal to a 3-0 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in Canada West soccer action.

With the win the Huskies improve to 4-3-2, while the ‘Horns fall to 1-8-1.

Before the game was even a minute old, the Huskies struck with Brett Levis’ looping strike from outside the 20 yard line eluding ‘Horns keeper Colin Pattison and finding the top half of the net.  Rounding out the Huskie scoring was Bobbi Nicholat and Levis who scored his second of the game in injury time.

After a slow start the Horns rebounded and turned the opening half into an entertaining affair with the two teams alternating chances.

The ‘Horns best chance came off a free kick; Morgan Brown-John’s well hit shot was barely kept out of the net by Huskie keeper Mark Diakiaw.

Just short of half, the Huskies nearly doubled their lead if not for a spectacular save by Pattison on Levis. Deep in the box, Levis was left unmarked but Pattison was equal to the task, diving to his left to get a hand on the ball.

The ‘Horns started the second half eerily similar to the first with Saskatchewan having the early chances and if not for some stellar saves from Pattison the result would have been sealed earlier.

Pattison’s best save came off the foot Levis again. After a ‘Horns defender stumbled Levis got an uncontested shot off but Pattison dove to his right and deflected the ball into touch.

In the 54th minute the Huskies doubled their lead after Josh Northey sprung Bobbi Nicholat, who made no mistake slipping the ball just past Pattison.

Again the ‘Horns would respond after the Huskie goal but Matt Meoruma’s diving header just missed the post, it was the last time the ‘Horns truly threatened Diakiaw’s shutout.

Diakiaw was only forced to make three save to earn his third shutout of the season. Pattison on the other hand was the far busier of the two goaltenders, finishing the game with 9 saves.

The ‘Horns will conclude the weekend home-stand hosting the Alberta Golden Bears, while the Huskies will travel to Calgary to face Dinos to wrap-up the trip through Alberta.
