Pronghorns edged 3–2 by Calgary Dinos in hard-fought contest

Box Score The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's soccer team turned in a determined performance against the University of Calgary Dinos on Friday evening, but ultimately came up short in a 3–2 result at The University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.

The match opened at a lively pace, with both teams testing each other's back lines. Calgary struck first in the opening 5 minutes when Soliman Aria gave the visitors a 1–0 lead. Gianmarco Plenzik followed with another one soon after to make the lead 2-0. Lethbridge responded quickly, generating several opportunities through Kai Sakaguchi and Micah McCusker. Their pressure paid off near the end of the half when Sakaguchi converted from close range to bring the score to 2–1.

The second half saw the Pronghorns increase their urgency in search of an equalizer. Their persistence was rewarded in the 50th minute when Will Hughes, capitalized on penalty kick bringing the score back to 2–2 and energizing the home crowd.

From there, the match tightened, with both sides trading chances. Tegan Romaine came up with key saves to deny Calgary from extending their lead, while Miciah Leach made timely interventions to disrupt several dangerous runs.
The decisive moment arrived in the 87th minute. Calgary broke through the Pronghorns defense, and Soliman Aria finished a well-placed shot to give the Dinos a 3–2 advantage. Despite a late push from Lethbridge, Calgary's defense held firm to secure the victory.

The Pronghorns finished the match with 11 total shots, 5 on target, compared to Calgary's 12 attempts, 6 on target.  Possession remained balanced throughout the evening, with both sides creating sustained stretches of pressure. Sakaguchi and Hughes's  attacking performance and Romaine's saves stood out for Lethbridge, while Calgary was led by Aria, who recorded two goals in the win. With the result, the Dinos improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Pronghorns move to 0-1.

Tomorrow, the Women will play in their home opener, Saturday August 30 at 12 p.m. at the Community Sports Stadium. Sunday, August 31 brings a double header to the Stadium with the Women playing at 12 p.m. and the Men following at 2:15 p.m. Catch the game live or on Canada West TV.
