Horns Wrap up Season Hosting a Pair of BC Schools

The Women’s Soccer team (0-9-3 CW) heads into the final weekend of the season, coming off their most successful weekend of the season. On the road last weekend, the ‘Horns earned a pair of ties versus the Regina Cougars and Manitoba Bisons, but will be in tough this weekend hosting the top two schools in the conference.

While the ‘Horns were officially eliminated from post-season contention a couple weeks ago, they could have a huge impact on how hosts the conference championship tournament with a upset this weekend.

Saturday’s opponent, Trinity Western Spartans (10-1-1 CW) sit atop the conference standings but only two points ahead of the UBC Thunderbirds (9-1-2 CW) who the ‘Horns host Sunday in the season finale.

The ‘Horns have yet to face either team this season but both have had impressive seasons. The CIs second ranked Spartans lead the conference in goals scored with 27 but have relied on a balance attack with four players scoring at least 4 goals this season. Daniela Gerig leads the Spartans with 6 goals.

While the T-Birds are the stingiest team in the conference, allowing only three goals in 12 games, they also boast the second best offense in Canada West with 26 goals for. UBC also has the goal scoring leader in Janine Frazao, who has scored 12 goals in 12 games.

Erika Anderson leads the ‘Horns with two goals this season.

The ‘Horns will also say good-bye to four seniors this weekend as Kathy Curtis, Janelle Groten , Jaclyn Groten and Sarah Lajeunesse will all play in their final games this weekend.

Kick-off for both games are set for 12:00pm at the University Community Stadium.
