CALGARY - The West Varsity soccer pitch was the host location for the  home opener game for Dinos women’s soccer team. The Dinos played host  to the Lethbridge Pronghorns with the Dinos emerging victorious  capturing a 2 to 0 win, this win moved the Dinos to a 2-1 record for the  2011 season, the loss for the Pronghorns dropped them to a 0-3 record  for the season. 
“I was reasonably happy, especially with the way we came out of the  blocks,” said Dinos head coach Matthew Shepherd after winning his first  home game.
 
Sarah Benson had a strong day at the field for the Dinos; she was  responsible for scoring both goals for the Dinos, along with an  impressive five shots on goal in the game.
 
“She did really well,” commented Shepherd. “Her positioning was  really good for the first goal, and for the second one too, she showed  her composure in the second one and finished it off really well. Good  for her she deserved it.”
 
After a fairly even start to the game in terms of possession, the  Dinos began to apply some good pressure with a number of scoring chances  in the middle and end of the first half of the game.  The first goal  was scored for the Dinos in the 10th minute of the match; Deanna Fidler  was responsible for assisting in the Sara Benson goal. After the first  half of the game the Dinos had five shots on goal in comparison to  Lethbridge’s one shot on goal.
 
The second half of the contest was all Dinos, the Dinos managed to  rack up an impressive seven shots on goal in the second half, compared  to the Pronghorn’s one shot on goal. The Dinos second goal came at 72  minutes, Sara Benson managed to get a rebound off the post by Tessa  Miller past Lethbridge goalie Taura Willoughby for Bensons second goal  of the day. 
 
The Dinos outshot the Pronghorns 10-2. In terms of fouls the Dinos committed 10 compared to the Pronghorns’ 6.
 
These two teams will battle again Sunday afternoon in Lethbridge to wrap up this home-and-home series.
