Lethbridge – Heading into the final three weeks of the Canada West season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s soccer team (3-2-4 CW) find themselves amidst a battle for a playoff spot as they head out on the road for a pair of games in Calgary versus the Mount Royal Cougars (2-7-1 CW).
The ‘Horns currently lead the Calgary Dinos by only two points for the final playoff spot in the Prairie Division and are just six points ahead of the Cougars.
While the ‘Horns did extend their program best points in seven consecutive games streak last weekend with two ties versus the Winnipeg Wesmen, the Dinos gained ground on the ‘Horns last weekend after earning four points versus the Cougars.
After dominating the Wesmen statistically Saturday and clawing back for a tie on Sunday, the ‘Horns hope the points left on the table last weekend will not come back to haunt them.
After giving up 10 goals during the opening weekend of the season, the ‘Horns have been one of the stingiest defenses in the conference during their seven game undefeated streak. During the last seven games, the ‘Horns have only given up three goals while scoring seven themselves.
Despite having two wins on the season, the Cougars have not officially won a game in their first season win the conference. The two wins credited two their record is the result of the University of Winnipeg being stripped of those wins after using an ineligible player.
Through 10 games, the Cougars have only scored three goals and have been shutout in eight of those contests. The Cougars have also given up the most goals in the division with 28.
Kick-off in Calgary for both Saturday and Sunday’s games are scheduled for 2:00pm at MRU Stadium Field on Mount Royal Campus.
