Box Score
Lethbridge - Battling cool temperatures and a stiff wind out of the west the Lethbridge Pronghorns and Regina Cougars battled to a 1-1 draw in Canada West women’s soccer action.

Emily Felker scored for the ‘Horns, while Megan Cormier replied for the Cougars.

While the ‘Horns were eliminated from post-season contention last weekend, they were attempting to play spoiler as the Cougars were looking to nail down a home field playoff date. Regina went into the weekend sitting in fourth but were only three points ahead of the Fraser Valley Cascades.

After weathering an early Regina storm, the ‘Horns would be the ones to open the scoring in the ninth minute. A Stephanie Groten cross found Emily Felker just outside the penalty area and Felker floated a shot over the outstretched arms of Cougar keeper Kacey McPhee.

Four minutes later, the Cougars would respond; Cormier collected the ball, making one move around a ‘Horns defender, and while Taylor Thomas got a piece of Cormier’s shot, she did not get enough and it looped into the back of the net.

The Cougars did control the majority of the play and did have a pair of chances to break the deadlock in the first half but could not find the back of the net. A cross to Taylor Firth looked like a sure goal but Groten was able to clear the ball off the line. Following a initial corner attempt by the Cougars being cleared, Carly Duech’s shot from the top of penalty area found the crossbar.

The Cougars outshot the ‘Horns 13-2 in the half.

With the wind gusting heavily in second half, neither team could really sustain any pressure. The Cougars did hold a slim 6-3 advantage on shot attempts, but they only threatened once. After a perfect cross into the wind, Cormier had a chance to bag her second goal of the afternoon but her header sailed over the net.

With the tie, the ‘Horns record moves to 1-8-2 with one game remaining, while the Cougars move to 7-3-1.

The ‘Horns will host the Saskatchewan Huskies in their season finale tomorrow afternoon, kick off is scheduled for 12:00pm at the University Community Stadium. The Cougars will travel up the #2 to face the Calgary Dinos tomorrow.
