Lethbridge – For the second week in a row, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s soccer team (1-6-0 CW) only plays one game this weekend, traveling to Prince George to face the UNBC Timberwolves (0-6-2 CW).
With only five games remaining in the conference schedule, the ‘Horns will need to make a move if there is any chance of qualifying for the post-season. Currently the ‘Horns sit 10
th in the conference standings, but are only three points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.
Offensively, the ‘Horns have struggled this season, scoring the only four times in seven contests and have generated the second fewest shots in the conference with 40. It will be a tough road for the ‘Horns down the stretch with three of their final five games on the road, but this weekend, the ‘Horns face a team in the Timberwolves that have given up a conference leading 42 goals in 8 games.
It have been a rough inaugural Canada West season for the Timberwolves, going winless and giving up double digit goals in two games, while being shutout in six of eight games thus far. UNBC’s two ties have come against fellow first-year Canada West programs University of Winnipeg and Mount Royal.
The Timberwolves have also given up the most shots on goal with 148, while generating the fewest shot attempts with 39.
The ‘Horns and Timberwolves will square off Sunday afternoon in Prince George after the Timberwolves host the Calgary Dinos the day before.
Next weekend, the ‘Horns will be back on the road heading to Winnipeg before closing the Canada West regular season at home October 21
st and 22
nd hosting the Regina Cougars and Saskatchewan Huskies
