Box Score The University of Alberta Pandas women's soccer team picked up a narrow road victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 1–0 at Community Stadium. A first-half strike from forward Wanda Czebreszuk proved to be the difference in a closely contested Canada West matchup.

Both sides settled into the match quickly, with Alberta establishing early pressure through set pieces and overlapping runs down the flanks. The Pandas earned multiple corners inside the opening 15 minutes but were denied by composed goalkeeping from Lethbridge's Kate Prince, who made a pair of sharp stops to keep the contest scoreless.

The Pronghorns nearly broke through against the run of play in the 22nd minute when midfielder Kiandra Boulter found space outside the box and fired a right-footed effort that struck the post. The chance energized the home side, but Alberta responded decisively minutes later. In the 31st minute, Czebreszuk capitalized on a defensive clearance that fell kindly at the top of the penalty area. The first-year forward struck cleanly into the bottom corner for her first goal of the season, giving the Pandas a 1–0 lead they would not relinquish.

The second half unfolded in similar fashion, with Alberta controlling much of the possession and Lethbridge looking to create opportunities on the counterattack. The Pandas produced nine shots on target over the course of the match, but Prince delivered a standout performance in goal, finishing with eight saves. Her reflex stops, including a diving effort in the 63rd minute, kept the Pronghorns within striking distance.

Lethbridge continued to search for an equalizer, creating pressure through three corner kicks and a pair of late free kicks near the edge of the box. However, Alberta's defensive unit remained organized, limiting the Pronghorns to just two shots on target. Goalkeeper Autumn Wynn recorded two saves to secure her first clean sheet of the year.

Discipline factored into the physical contest, as three yellow cards were issued. Alberta's Clara Seck was cautioned in the 10th minute, followed by teammate Layla Filipchuk in the second half. Lethbridge midfielder Lainey Fischer picked up a booking in the 69th minute while attempting to break up an Alberta counterattack.

Statistically, Alberta outshot Lethbridge 15–4, with a 7–3 edge in corners. The Pronghorns battled hard despite conceding the majority of possession, with Prince's goalkeeping and Boulter's near-miss representing the highlights of their afternoon.

With the victory, Alberta improves to 1-0-1on the season, while Lethbridge moves to 0-1-1. The Pronghorns will aim to rebound in their upcoming matchup next weekend when they hot the road against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. Catch the action on Canada West TV.
