Lethbridge – For the second consecutive day, the Lethbridge Pronghorns came from behind to earn a tie, scoring in the 84th minute to draw the Victoria Vikes 1-1.

Gavin Barrett opened the scoring in the 71st minute and Shlomo Swan-Azman responded for the ‘Horns.

After opening the season with two straight losses, the ‘Horns have now earned points in their last four games and sit in a tie for third in the Prairie Division with a 2-2-2 record. The Vikes are now to 2-3-1.

After a scoreless and virtually uneventful opening half, the Vikes struck in the 71st minute. Being at the end of a slick give-and-go, Barrett ended up in alone versus ‘Horns keeper Tyler Boast and made no mistake picking the upper half of the net.

Just when it looked like the Vikes were taking control, a long drop kick by Boast was misplayed by a Vikes defender, and went right to Swan-Azman. Keeping his composure, Swan-Azman chipped the ball over the charging Vikes goaltender and bouncing over the line just as two Vikes defenders slid into the net in an attempt to prevent the goal.

Prior to the opening goal, the goaltenders gained full marks for maintaining a clean sheet up to that point. Boast was the busier of the two keepers, making a pair of nice saves in the opening half. First he stopped Vike Thomas Mallette, diving to his left and followed that up with a equally difficult stop off Sam Prette.

Boast picked up where he left off in the second, stopping Barrett from close range, which left Boast winded.
Not to be out done, Boast’s counterpart, Elliott Mitrou kept the game scoreless making a great diving save off Guilherme Costa from 20 yards-out

In extra time, Boast made back-to-back saves to secure the tie. Dave Adams had two attempts from inside the 18-yard box, collecting his own rebound but Boast was equal to the task.

Boast finished the day with 11 saves, while Mitrou made five saves in the draw.

The ‘Horns will travel to Prince George next weekend for one game versus the UNBC Timberwolves, while the Vikes will host the Alberta Golden Bears and Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend.
