Box Score
Lethbridge – Paced by Natalie Boyd's two goal effort, the Trinity Western Spartans kept the Lethbridge Pronghorns winless on the Canada West season with a 5-1 win.

Krista Gommeringer had a big day for the Spartans as well finishing the game with a goal and three assist, while Alessandra Oliverio and Caitlin Haines notched the other Spartans goals. Kim Shellenberg responded for the Pronghorns.

Rebounding from a 1-0 loss yesterday in Calgary, the Spartans put the 'Horns on their heels early and controlled much of the play for the entire 90 minutes, directing 21 shots towards the 'Horns net, while stymieing the 'Horns attack to only seven shot attempts.

Gommeringer kicked off the Spartans attack in the 8th minute, streaking through 'Horns defenders on a pass from Oliverio and skillfully dribbled around a charging 'Horns keeper Micaela Stone, then depositing the ball into the open net.

Gommeringer had a hand in the next goal as well after her strike hit the crossbar but Boyd was at the right spot to head home her first of the day.

Despite only registering four first half shots, Shellenberg cut the lead in half, scoring from a free kick just past the 39th minute. Her goal was her second of the season, which also leads the team.

Wasting little time, the Spartans responded right back, scoring less than a minute later when Oliverio picked up her third of the season.

While the 'Horns held the Spartans offence at bay for the first portion of the second half and had more touches than the first, they could not penetrate the Spartans defence. Following a good sequence down the field for the 'Horns, Kelsy Graham had the 'Horns best chance to cut into the Spartan lead but her shot from deep into the Spartan box was turned aside by Spartan keeper Rachel Bedek.

Boyd widened the Spartans lead in the 74th minute with a long range shot that was just out of the reach of Stone, and Haines rounded out the scoring just over two minutes later with a slick finish off one of the Spartans six corner kicks.

Making her first start for the Pronghorns, Stone finished the day with six saves, while Bedek made three stops to earn her sixth win of the season.

The loss drops the 'Horns to 0-9-2 and they will cap a tough season next weekend with one game in Calgary versus the Dinos. For the Spartans, the win improves them to 6-1-3, but more importantly keeps the Spartans in the tight race for playoff positioning. The Spartans will host the conference leading Alberta Pandas and Mount Royal Cougars next weekend to wrap up their conference schedule.
