Lethbridge – On the strength of scoring once in each period, the Saskatchewan Huskies salvaged a weekend split with a 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

Sarah Greschner led the way for the Huskies with a two goal performance, while Kaitlin Willoughby scored the other Huskie marker. Lauren Fredrich and Sadie Lenstra replied for the Pronghorns

Nearly a carbon copy to Friday night, the Huskies hit the scoreboard early into the opening period. After Marley Ervine scored 1:10 into the game last night, her teammate Sarah Greschner one upped her tonight, lighting the lamp at 1:02 with a quick wrap around to beat 'Horns goaltender Crystal Patterson.

Despite combining for 28 shots on goal in the period, neither team was able to hit the score sheet for the remainder of the opening frame, but it was not from a lack of trying.

Kandace Cook nearly doubled the Huskies lead with just over a minute to play in the period, taking a centering pass from Kennedy Harris but Patterson made a slick kick save to turn Cook away.

Sadie Lenstra arguably had the best Pronghorn chance of the period in the dying moments but a nice pad save from Huskie keeper Karan Lefsrud denied Lenstra the equalizer.

After a high octane opening 20 minutes, both teams settled into a more defensive structure and quality chances at either end were far and few between, but the Huskies would double their lead six minutes into the period. Huskie captain Cami Wooster found Willoughby back door, who made no mistake lifting the puck over a sprawled Patterson.

With Patterson down and searching for the puck Cook nearly upped the lead to three but her backhand went high over the bar with Patterson looking the other way.

Looking to salvage a weekend split, the Huskies defence locked down the 'Horns for majority of the third period and eventually expanded the lead to three with just over five minutes remaining. Greschner walked into the slot and blasted a shot over Patterson's shoulder for her second of the game.

Not going down without a fight, the 'Horns cut the lead back to two and finally solved Lefsrud a minute later. Fredrich potted her first of the season to make the game interesting.

With Patterson on the bench for the extra attacker, Sadie Lenstra pounced on a Lefsrud rebound with 1:17 remaining and made no mistake to bring the 'Horns within one, but that would be as close as the 'Horns would get.

The Huskies improve to 5-2-1 with the win, while the 'Horns fall to 3-3-2 on the season.

Next up for the Pronghorns will be a road trip to Edmonton next weekend to face the Alberta Pandas while the Huskies will return home to face the Calgary Dinos at Rutherford Arena.
