Lethbridge – The University of Manitoba Bisons blanked the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 3-0, Saturday night, to complete the sweep of the two-game weekend series at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
Maggie Litchfield-Medd, Jessica Rosenbaum, and Caitlyn MacDonald each earned individual markers for the Bisons.
Shauntelle Williams got the start for Lethbridge but was relieved midway through the first period by Crystal Patterson. Williams stopped five of seven shots, while Patterson turned aside all 19 shots she faced.
Dee-Ana Marion was in net for Manitoba and turned aside 22 shots to earn a road shut-out.
The Bisons came out strong in the opening period, looking to get an early edge after last night's narrow 4-3 win. Kyleigh Palmer had a great early chance in close, splitting the defenders, she rushed through the slot and put the puck on net.
Manitoba's first goal came less than five minutes into play. Litchfield-Medd netted her fifth of the season, from Lee, as her quick shot found the back of the net at 4:30. She nearly doubled up a minute later as she broke out with the puck, cut right across the crease, dangled left, and brought the puck back to her forehand but her shot went wide and hit the post.
An inadvertently fumbled save by Williams allowed Rosenbaum to sneak the puck past the line, unassisted, bringing her team's tally to two.
Both teams continued to push the pace offensively in the third, generating many scoring chances, but with little scoring success.
MacDonald added an empty net goal for the Bisons in the final minutes of play.
With this win, the Bisons improve to 7-4-1 CW while the Horns fall to 3-7-2 CW. Next up for the Horns is a two-game home and home series with Mount Royal University, beginning next Friday night in Calgary. The Bisons return home where they will host the UBC Thunderbirds in a two-game weekend matchup at Wayne Flemming Arena.
