Lethbridge – Riding the momentum from a big shoot-out win last night in Calgary, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns completed the weekend sweep of the two game home-and-home series dumping the Mount Royal Cougars, 4-1.

Lethbridge goals were scored by Sarah Spence, Angela Burke, Aislinn Kooistra, and Kirsten Reeves, while Jocelyn Froehlich netted the lone marker for the Cougars.

Crystal Patterson got the start for Lethbridge and turned aside all but one of the 28 shots she faced. Katie Sigurdson started in net for the Cougars, stopping 24 shots on the night.

Both teams came out hot, with scoring chances materializing at each end of the ice, but the Pronghorns would strike first, just less than five minutes into play. Chelsea Minor found Spence alone in the slot and dished her a perfect pass that was quickly buried high glove side.

The second frame got underway and the Cougars were looking to knot things up. A great shot from Sydney Laurin came close but Patterson managed to glove it down.

Lethbridge widened their lead to two, at 13:12, after a soft shot from Burke managed to sneak past Sigurdson's outstretched pad.

Kat McDonald's hard blast from the point was confidently gloved down by Patterson who was tested repeatedly as the period drew to a close, including an almost acrobatic spin manoeuver that managed to keep the puck out of harm's way.

Shots on goal after two periods of play slightly favoured the home team, 19-16.

The Cougars earned their first and only goal a mere fifteen seconds into the third period. Froehlich corralled the loose puck amid a flurry of bodies and jammed the puck over the line.

Lethbridge's Aislinn Kooistra added her second in as many games, at 5:29, following up on her own rebound to make it 3-1 and Reeves added a fourth before the end of the frame; a textbook give-and-go from Spence, top shelf glove side.

With this win the Pronghorns improve to 5-7-2 CW while the Cougars fall to 2-11-1 CW. Next weekend the Horns travel to Vancouver where they will face off against the UBC T-Birds while the Cougars return home to host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
