Box Score
Edmonton - The University of Alberta Pandas hockey team scored their second straight win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns thanks to a 3-0 score on Saturday night at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton. The Pandas defeated the 'Horns 6-3 on Friday as well.
With the win, Alberta improves to 6-2-2 on the season and is tied for third in the Canada West standings alongside Regina. The UBC Thunderbirds, Canada West champions in 2012-13, sit in first place with 15 points.
Lethbridge, meanwhile, sees its record fall to 3-5-2 on the season, which places them sixth in the eight team conference. The top six teams however, make the playoffs.
Pandas' rookie Deanna Morin scored her second career CIS goal for Alberta, as she found the twine at the 12:08 mark of the first period for what would eventually be the game winning goal. The Fort Saskatchewan native notched her first career goal last night during Alberta's 6-2 victory.
Alberta outshot the Pronghorns 13-8 in the first period, but despite outshooting the visitors 11-4 in the middle frame, the Pandas could not find a second goal. Veteran Lethbridge goalie Crystal Patterson was equal to everything Alberta tested her with in the second period, while sophomore Pandas' goalie Lindsey Post was solid as well.
In the third, the Pandas cemented the win thanks to a pair of goals. Team leading scorer Jayden Skoye continued her hot handed ways by potting her sixth of the season, this one coming on the PP. The fifth-year forward now has 11 points on the season, good enough for third in the Canada West point race, and she has now scored three goals and four points in her last three games.
Tess Houston added a late goal to make it a 3-0 final. Alberta outshot Lethbridge 36-18 on Saturday, and a combined 72-34 on the weekend.
The Pandas will hit the road next weekend when they take on the Regina Cougars in a key battle, while the Pronghorns will return home to face the Manitoba Bisons.
