Saskatoon - University of Lethbridge’s Ashley Beattie scored the lone goal in a Pronghorns 4-3 shootout victory over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.
Beattie scored on the Pronghorns’ first attempt in the shootout. Saskatchewan’s three leading scorers Cara Wooster, Cami Wooster and Danny Stone all failed to score for the Huskies. Amy Van Buskirk also missed for the ‘Horns.
With the win Lethbridge improves to 9-15-3, while Saskatchewan drops to 10-12-5. The Huskies already have a date in the Canada West postseason, but could finish as high as fifth depending on Saturday night’s outcome. Lethbridge did not make the playoffs.
Cami Wooster opened the scoring in the game with her first of two goals on the night at 4:05 in the first period. Lethbridge quickly tied the game with a Jenna-Marie Durnin goal at 6:55. Cami Wooster answered with a power play goal at 9:12, but Lethbridge tied the game again at 13:13 on a goal by Jasmin Teske.
Glenda Edie gave the Pronghorns a 3-2 lead at 18:45 in the third. Saskatchewan’s captain Cara Wooster tied the game with 30 seconds left on a scramble in front of the net.
Shauntelle Parsons made 27 saves in the win for Lethbridge, while Cassidy Hendricks made 22 for the Huskies.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Rutherford Rink in the final regular season game of the Canada West women’s hockey season. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
