Box Score

Lethbridge – On the strength on a late second half goal, the Saskatchewan Huskies continued their early season winning ways with a close 1-0 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in game one of the weekend series in Lethbridge.

Garrett Peters scored the lone goal, while Michal Bandula was credited with seven saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season. Tyler Boast suffered the loss for the 'Horns and made two saves.

With the win the Huskies improve to 3-0-0 on the season, while the 'Horns continue to search for their first points of the season and fall to 0-3-0.

Despite holding the Huskies to only three shots on goal and just 10 shot attempts on the day, the 'Horns generated very few quality chances with their counter-attack. The 'Horns found the net on seven of their 14 attempted shots but could not beat Bandula.

During the scoreless opening half, high quality chances were few and far between but Brett Levis had the first good chance to break the deadlock. His initial shot trickled through the hands of Boast but defender Scott Slomp was able to scurry back and clear the ball off the line.

Shlomo Swan-Azmon had the 'Horns only threatening chance of the half, but his half-volley was stopped by Bandula.

The second half saw much of the same tough sledding in the attacking half for both teams and in the early going neither team could find the target. Mitch Bauche had a glorious chance to opening the scoring in the 56th minute, finding himself with the ball in the six-yard box but his shot slid just wide.

With a free kick just outside the penalty area, 'Horns striker Morgan Brownjohn took a crack at breaking the stalemate but his shot sailed high over the cross bar.

A nicely crossed ball in the 76th minute from Luigi Bekwayo led to Peters' game winning goal, tapping the cross into the back of the net for the game winner.

The 'Horns will look to exact some revenge on the Huskies tomorrow afternoon as these two teams conclude the weekend series at the University Community Sports Stadium. Kick-off is set for 2:15pm.
