Lethbridge – Battling a stiff wind all day long, the Mount Royal Cougars grinded out a weekend split downing the host Lethbridge Pronghorns 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Lethbridge.

Thiago Silva scored the lone game to lift the visitors to their third win of the year and move back to the .500 mark on the season at 3-3-1, while the loss drops the 'Horns to 2-6-0 on the season.

The Pronghorns won the opening game of the weekend series with a come from behind 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon.

From the opening kick-off the wind howled out of the west, with gusts of well over 60 kilometers per hour, playing a huge factor in the lack of scoring and offensive chances from both teams. The 'Horns and Cougars combined for only 17 shot attempts in the game. But what the game lacked in offensive chances it did not lack in intensity as the two teams combined for 37 fouls and three yellow cards.

Silva had the lone quality chance in the opening half, before the game was three minutes old. Breaking in from the left side, Silva's low shot was turned away by a diving Tyler Boast.

In the second half Boast would be tested again, this time off the foot of Cougar's leading scorer Cody Cook, but Boast dove to his right to defect the ball out of bounds for the Cougars lone corner of the day.

Just shy of the 67th minute 'Horns captain Dominique Point du Jour made a good rush up the wing for the 'Horns but Kamil Zielinski made a routine save on Point du Jour's shot.

With only 15 minutes remaining the Cougars got the only goal they would need from a tic-tac-toe free kick. Cook swung the ball into the back of the 'Horns penalty area and substitute Jeff Blake one touched the ball back into the middle of the box, where Silva was waiting for the tap-in goal.

A new sense of urgency ensued for the 'Horns following the goal and one minute short of full time Odilichukwu Ohuegbe nearly earned the equalizer but his header just slid wide.

Zielinski made five saves to earn his third clean sheet of the season, while Boast made four saves in the loss.

The 'Horns will head out on the road next weekend, traveling to Winnipeg to face the Wesmen in a pair of games Friday and Saturday night. The Cougars will host their cross-town rival Calgary Dinos next weekend for two games.
