Lethbridge – With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team hosts their final series of the season and welcome arguably the hottest team in the conference, the Alberta Pandas.
After losing both games last weekend to the Mount Royal Cougars, the 'Horns remain three points behind the Calgary Dinos for the final playoff spot in Canada West. Down the stretch the 'Horns have gone 2-5-3 in their last 10 games.
The Pandas on the other hand have played themselves back into contention for top spot in the division. Winners of four in a row, including an impressive sweep of the defending Canada West Champion UBC Thunderbirds, the Pandas trail the T-Birds by two points for top spot. The Pandas are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games.
Statistically speaking the 'Horns have struggled with consistency at both ends of the rink. The 'Horns have scored the third fewest goals in the conference with 44 in 24 games, while surrendering 71 goals against, the most in the conference.
On the other hand, the Pandas rank among the conference leaders in both categories. The Pandas are the stingiest team in Canada West allowing a league low 27 goals against and have scored the second most goals with 64.
The 'Horns do not have a player in the top-20 conference scoring but Kirsten Reeves leads the team with seven goals and four assists, while Sarah Spence sits second in team scoring with six goals and four assists.
The Pandas have four players in the top-20 and are led by Jayden Skoye with 10 goals and eight assists. Jessica Kampjes sits second with 17 points, while Alison Campbell and Katie Stewart have 16 and 13 points respectively.
Crystal Patterson continues to carry the load for the 'Horns in net, starting 14 consecutive games. She sports a 2.44 goals-against-average and a 0.906 save percentage.
The key to the Pandas success starts in the crease with the tandem of Lindsey Post and Michala Jefferies. Post has seen action in four more games than Jefferies and leads the conference in goals-against-average (0.90) and is second in save percentage (0.946). She has also earned an impressive seven shutouts in 14 games. No slouch herself, Jefferies sports a 1.18 goals-against-average and a 0.940 save percentage.
Puck drops both Friday and Saturday night at 7:00pm at Nicholas Sheran Arena and both games will be streamed live on
