Lethbridge – Heading into the final weekend of the Canada West conference schedule, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's soccer team (3-5-2) controls their own destiny but faces the hottest team in the conference in those final two games.
The 'Horns host the Calgary Dinos (7-3-0) for a pair of games, Saturday and Sunday at 2:15 at the University Community Sports Stadium.
Even after suffering a tough sweep at the hands of the Alberta Golden Bears last weekend, the 'Horns are tied for the final playoff spot in the Prairie Division with the MacEwan Griffins but the 'Horns hold the tie breaker.
The Griffins travel to Winnipeg to face the Winnipeg Wesmen this weekend in their final two games of the season.
With 12 goals scored through 10 games, the 'Horns are on pace for one of their best offensive seasons in recent years. The 'Horns scored 13 goals in 2012 and 2009, and in 2007 the team scored 19 goals but all three of those seasons were 14-game seasons.
First-year forward Stephen Primeau continues to lead the 'Horns in scoring with four goals, while three other Pronghorns have scored twice this season.
For the Dinos, after a rocky start, they have found their stride and enter the final weekend of the season as the hottest team in conference, winners of seven straight games.
While the Dinos are guaranteed a post-season berth and know who they are playing in the quarter-final, the Dinos are still fighting for home field advantage for the quarter-final. The Dinos and Golden Bears are tied for second place but with the Bears having completed their regular season, the Dinos only need a single point to claim second place and the right host the quarter-final.
Offensively, a pair of Dinos have scored over 50% of their team's goals with Andrew Hood and Dominic Russo each scoring five times.
Since taking over the goalkeeping duties after the Dinos opened with three straight losses, Colin Hasick has been nothing short of spectacular. In his seven straight wins, he has earned five clean sheets, which leads the conference and a 0.29 goals-against-average.
