Lethbridge – After facing a CIS top-10 team three weeks in a row, the Lethbridge Pronghorns women's hockey team (1-5-0) finally face a team this weekend that is not ranked but that doesn't make the task any easier, as they travel to Winnipeg to face the Manitoba Bisons (4-1-1).
The 'Horns and Bisons square off Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Wayne Flemming Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00pm both days.
In their last outing, the Pronghorns earned a weekend split with the CIS fourth ranked UBC Thunderbirds. After losing a close 2-1 decision Friday night, the Pronghorns rebounded to earn their first win of the season with a 3-1 win.
Third-year forward Jenae Culp led the 'Horns offensively last weekend with her first ever multi-goal game Saturday, scoring twice including the game winning goal just shy of the midway mark of the third period. She leads the team in goals with three, which is exactly half of the teams' output so far this season.
Senior goaltender Crystal Patterson had her best weekend of the season as well, stopping 70 of the 73 shots she faced over the two games.
While the Bisons are currently unranked, it doesn't mean they are not off to a good start. After three conference weekends, the Bisons are tied for second with 12 points and have only suffered one regulation time loss. Last weekend, the Bisons swept the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary with 4-1 and 3-1 victories.
The Bisons are the second stingiest team in the conference thus far only allowing seven goals against in six games, while scoring 13 goals for during that same stretch.
Last week's Canada West first star Alanna Sharman leads the Bisons in scoring with four goals and two assists, while Rachel Dyck has earned all four wins in the Bisons crease and sports a minuscule 0.73 goals-against-average.
The 'Horns will remain on the road next weekend, traveling to Regina to face the Cougars before returning home November 15
th in the back half of a home-and-home series with the Mount Royal Cougars.
