Last weekend, the Pronghorns put an end to a four game losing streak in impressive fashion, sweeping the Mount Royal Cougars. Friday night in Calgary, the 'Horns shutout the Cougars 4-0, before completing the sweep with a 2-1 win on home ice.
Still one of the lowest scoring teams in the conference, the 'Horns scored a season high four goals on Friday but they are heavily relying on one line for their offensive production this year. The line of Jenae Culp, Sadie Lenstra and Sarah Spence have combined to score 11 of the teams 17 goals. Culp leads the team with five goals, while Lenstra has scored four times.
In goal, senior Crystal Patterson has started all 12 games for the 'Horns and holds a 3.02 goals-against-average and a 0.916 save percentage.
For the Huskies, through 12 games, they are part of the group that has separated themselves from the 'Horns and Mount Royal Cougars. Currently tied for fifth with the Regina Cougars, but only five points out of first, the Huskies have not lost in regulation time in seven outings, with their only blemishes coming in a pair of overtime losses to Regina last weekend.
Offensively, the Huskies are led by a balanced attack with eight Huskies scoring at least one goal. Kaitlin Willoughby leads the Huskies with five goals and three assists, while three others are tied at second with seven points.
In the crease, similar to the 'Horns, Cassidy Hendricks has started all 12 games for the Huskies and holds a 2.01 goals-against-average with one shutout.
The 'Horns will return home next weekend to wrap up the first semester of conference action, hosting the Regina Cougars.
