Lethbridge - In their final home match up of the 2013-2014 season, The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns dropped a 3-1 decision to the University of Alberta Pandas.

Gillian Altheim, Jessica Kampjes and Janelle Froehler each scored singles for the Pandas in the win, while Sarah Spence scored the lone marker for the 'Horns.

Lindsey Post made 18 saves in the Pandas crease to earn her ninth win of the season. Workhorse Crystal Patterson was between the pipes for the 'Horns and turned aside 32 of the 34 shots she faces.

The loss all but dashes any playoff hopes for the 'Horns, which keeps them three points behind the Calgary Dinos for the final spot with a 7-14-5 record. The Pandas are peaking at the right time, winners of six straight games (18-5-3) but remain two points behind the UBC Thunderbirds for top spot in Canada West.

Lethbridge got some great chances early. Courtney Minor's shot through traffic looked good but Post followed it and made the stop.

Alberta's Lindsay Cunningham's shot from in close was skillfully turned aside by Patterson but a delayed Lethbridge penalty gave the Pandas a golden chance with an extra attacker. Althiem secured the puck quickly and managed to get the puck past the unsuspecting keeper, low stick side, giving her team an early lead.

Glenda Edie made a heads up play at centre ice and went hard into the Panda's zone but her hard wrister hit Post and deflected wide.

Shots through one period of play 11-4 pandas

The Pandas doubled up their lead less than two minutes into the second period. With a flurry of bodies fighting for position in front of the net, Kampjes managed to get her stick on the loose puck and put a quick shot past Patterson.

Looking for her second of the night, Altheim fired a shot on net but her effort was confidently turned aside.

Looking to bounce back in the third, the Horns offensive was fired up and Spence got a piece of Sabourin's hard shot from the point and redirected it in, cutting the Panda's lead in half midway through the third frame.

Patterson came to the bench to give the Horns an extra attacker with two minutes remaining but a turnover allowed Froehler to add an empty netter for the Pandas.

The Pronghorns travel to Manitoba where the will face off for a two game weekend series against the University of Manitoba Bisons. The Pandas will wrap up the regular season hosting the Regina Cougars for a pair next weekend.
