Must win games in Winnipeg for the ‘Horns

Lethbridge – Entering the final weekend of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team is still alive for the last playoff spot in the conference but anything less than four points and some help from the Mount Royal Cougars will leave them on the outside looking in.

The 'Horns trail the Calgary Dinos by three points, but they will know before Friday's game if they are mathematically still alive as the Dinos take on the Mount Royal Cougars Thursday night in the front half of the home-and-home series.

The 'Horns have struggled down the stretch, going winless in their last five games, and lack of offensive production has been the main reason for the 'Horns struggles. During this winless streak, the 'Horns have not scored more than two goals in any of those games.

The challenge for the 'Horns won't be an easy one as they travel to Winnipeg to take on the fourth place Manitoba Bisons.

While the Bisons are cemented in a playoff spot, they still have an outside chance of moving up to third. The Bisons currently trail the Saskatchewan Huskies by four points.

Sarah Spence and Kirsten Reeves are the only Pronghorns to crack the conference's top-20 scoring list, each have eight goals and five assists this season.

In the crease, Crystal Patterson has started 16 straight games and is tenth in goals-against-average (2.40 GAA) and is seventh in save percentage (0.924%).

For the Bisons, forward Kyleigh Palmer (14 goals, 13 assists) leads the team and is third in conference scoring with 27 points while forwards Meagan Vestby (7 goals, 14 assists) is sixth with 21 points and Maggie Litchfield-Medd (9 goals, 10 assists) is ninth in Canada West with 19 points. Palmer is first and Caitin MacDonald (4 goals, 5 assists) is tied for seventh in conference defenceman scoring.

In Canada West goals-against-average stats, goalies Amanda Schubert (1.93 GAA) is sixth and Dée-Ana Marion (2.00 GAA) is seventh.

Puck drops in Winnipeg Friday night at 7:00pm CST and Saturday night at 6:00pm CST. Live stats can be found at: http://www.leaguestat.com/canadawest/women/en/stats/schedule.php?season_id=39.
