Box Score Lethbridge – Playing in their first home game of the 2014 Canada West season, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's soccer team put forth a dominant performance in front of their home crowd, defeating the MacEwan Griffins 3-0.
Conner Brady, freshman Stephen Primeau and Chris Rushworth paced the Pronghorns with a goal each, while goaltender Tyler Boast was not credited with a save in earning his second consecutive clean sheet.
The 'Horns attempted 21 to the Griffins two shots and forced Griffins keeper Adam Hajji to make five saves.
Right out of the gate, the 'Horns jumped all over the newest Canada West member but struggled to find the net early. Rushworth had the 'Horns first quality chance but his shot as he streaked down the left flank found the side of the net.
In the 11
th minute, Brady opened the scoring for the 'Horns, a beneficiary of a Cormac Southam header back into the box. Brady was all alone with a empty net.
The 'Horns offensive onslaught continued for the rest of the half, but near misses kept them from extending the lead.
From the start of the second half, the 'Horns continued to apply pressure but it wasn't until the 72
nd minute that the 'Horns would finally be rewarded. Rushworth was involved again as he was all day.
Rushworth cut the ball back to Primeau and he made no mistake for his first career Canada West goal.
Only two minutes later, Rushworth was rewarded with a goal of his own to put the game out of reach. Brady returned the favor this time, finding Rushworth streaking down the left side of the field and Rushworth beat Hajji to the far post.
Late in injury time, 'Horns sub Shlomo Swan-Azmon nearly extended the lead to four, after slicing through the Griffins defenders but his chip over the keeper found the crossbar.
The 'Horns and Griffins will wrap up their weekend series tomorrow afternoon at the University Community Stadium, kick-off is scheduled for 2:15 pm.
