After not registering a shot on goal yesterday, the Griffins opened the scoring on their first shot of the game. Only two minutes in, Erik Halabi's shot slid under the hands of Tyler Boast.
Looking to respond to the Griffins goal, the 'Horns came right back to tie the game only minutes later. Off a short corner kick, Allan Siwela found Rigaux at the top of the box and he made no mistake picking the left top corner.
The Griffins nearly regained their lead off a free kick from 25-yards out. Josh Ongaro curled it over Boast's head but hit the crossbar. In the 28
th minute, the Griffins would retake the lead; Ongaro took another attempt but this time from 35-yards and ripped a shot top corner.
Again the 'Horns looked to respond and it appeared as if they had just done that with Stephen Primeau putting a header into the net back post but it was waved off for an offside.
After a stalemate for the opening 30 minutes of the second half, the Griffins took advantage of a 'Horns break down. Jonathon Albertkant hit a streaking Yussef Mimouni, who picked the low corner past Boast.
With only four minutes remaining the 'Horns came dangerously close to cutting into the Griffins lead. Riley Flint crossed the ball into the box and found the head of Kendell Wiens but he could not find the net and in extra time, Rigaux had a glorious chance from 12-yards out but his shot sailed wide.
The 'Horns finished the match with a narrow 6-5 advantage on shots on goal and an eight to three advantage on corner kicks.
The 'Horns will remain home next weekend hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies for a pair of games. The Griffins will return home to host cross-town rival Alberta Golden Bears.
