Lethbridge – After opening the 2015 season with two consecutive weekend series on the road, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team finally hits home ice, hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies. Puck drops both Friday and Saturday night at 7:00pm at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
The 'Horns (4-0-0) couldn't have hoped for a better start to the season with four straight wins over two of the top teams in the conference last season and were rewarded debuting on the CIS TOP 10 as the fifth ranked team in Canada.
Solid goaltending, excellent speciality teams, and balanced scoring has put the 'Horns atop the Canada West standings through two weeks.
First-year goaltender Alicia Anderson has been exceptional in the 'Horns crease, leading the conference in goals-against average (1.25) and save percentage (0.961%), while being named one of Canada West three stars in each of the first two weeks.
On specialty teams, the 'Horns have been perfect on the penalty kill thus far, killing off all 18 times shorthanded. The 'Horns are second in power play percentage at 36.4% but have scored twice as many power play goals than anyone else with eight.
While Lauren Fredrich (3G, 2A) and Jocelyn Sabourin (1G, 4A) lead the team in points with five, the 'Horns have had seven different goal scorers.
The Huskies (3-1-0) come into the weekend following a series split at home with the Calgary Dinos and are the second stingiest team in Canada West behind the Pronghorns, allowing six goals against in 4 games.
Of the nine goals the Huskies have scored, four have come with the extra attacker and hold the top power play percentage at 66.7% and will test the 'Horns perfect penalty killing unit.
Offensively the Huskies have also had seven different goal scorers so far this season and defender Julia Flinton leads the team with four points.
In the crease, the Huskies have split duties between Cassidy Hendricks and Jerrica Waltz. Hendricks is 2-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average, while Waltz in 1-1 with a 1.51 goals-against average.
