CALGARY- The University of Calgary Dinos took a 3-0 loss to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at the Markin MacPhail Centre on Friday, October 23.

Despite outshooting the Pronghorns by a wide margin, the Dinos fell behind early and were unable to recover as they lost their third straight game to fall to 1-6 on the season. The Pronghorns are off to their best start in the team's history with tonight's win, improving to a 6-1 record.

Lethbridge took the lead just 2:02 into the first period when Jenae Culp capitalized on her own rebound after receiving a nice pass from behind the net from linemate Chelsea Kasprick. The Dinos came close on a shot from Gavrilova that came loose in the crease, but Vafina was unable to put the rebound past Pronghorns goaltender, Alicia Anderson, leaving the Dinos down a goal after the first period of play.

"It was a solid effort from all our lines tonight," said head coach Michelle Janus. "The team wasn't intimidated by the Olympic size ice and we'll look to get our power play generating more offense at home tomorrow."

The Pronghorns added to their lead in the second period when forward Sarah Spence hit Aislinn Kooistra with a cross-crease pass off the rush and Kooistra found the back of the net to give Lethbridge a 2-0 advantage going into the final frame.

The third period was dominated by the Dinos as they outshot the Pronghorns 17-8, but they were unable to beat Anderson who made 32 saves for the shutout win. With Lethbridge shorthanded and an extra attacker out for the Dinos, Tricia Van Vaerenbergh added a short-handed empty net goal the give the Pronghorns a 3-0 victory.

The Dinos will have the opportunity to improve on tonight's result as the two teams travel to Lethbridge to complete the second game of a home-and-home series tomorrow night, October 24. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT at the Nicholas Sheran Arena.
