SASKATOON – Three first half goals in a span of eight minutes gave the University of Saskatchewan a 3-0 victory over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in a Canada West quarter-final Saturday afternoon on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.

With the victory the Huskies advance to the Canada West Women's Soccer Select Six and as the top seed in the East Division will host the championship tournament November 5-7 in Saskatoon. It is the second straight season the Huskies have won a quarter-final on home turf.

Three of the Huskies top scorers in the 2015 regular season came through when needed in the post-season. Leesa Eggum, Erica Hindmarsh and Jenelle Zapski all recorded goals in the match. Hidmarsh also assisted on both goals.

"We played with a lot of heart today," said head coach Fred Trinh. "U of S scored on three of our mistakes late in the first half."

"There were 15 minutes late in the first that the game got away from us but the rest of the game we were in it."

Leesa Eggum's header got the Huskies on the board in the 32nd minute. Erica Hindmarsh stepped up to the ball on a free kick sending a high cross towards the back post. Eggum out leaped her defender to get her head on the ball sending it to the top left corner of the net.

Five minutes later, in the 37th, the Huskies doubled their lead. Hindmarsh's corner kick was deflected off a Pronghorn into the net for the 2-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, the Huskie offense was back on the attack. Saskatchewan's pressure resulted in a corner kick in the 40th minute. Hindmarsh sent the ball in to the back post where Zapski would get a foot on it to send it just inside the left post for the three-goal advantage.

Saskatchewan would continue to pressure in the opening minutes of the second half. The Pronghorns shut down a number of Huskie scoring chances to keep the deficit at three. The 'Horns had their best stretch of the match near the 70th minute. The 'Horns had a pair of runs in behind the Saskatchewan defense, but Huskie keeper Kyleigh Vause kept the score sheet blank.
