Box Score REGINA, Sask. - The line of Kylie Gavelin, Stephanie Sawchuk and Jaycee Magwood combined for six points as the University of Regina women's hockey team downed the Lethbridge Pronghorns 3-0 at The Co-operators Centre on Friday night.

Gavelin had a goal and two assists, while Magwood had a goal and an assist and Sawchuk scored her fourth goal in the last three games. Carleen Meszaros and Alexis Larson also collected assists in the win.

Larson took a hooking penalty midway through the first period, but the Cougars struck right as the penalty expired. Magwood intercepted a Pronghorn pass and fed it ahead to Gavelin, who went to the backhand to beat Alicia Anderson with a low shot. Gavelin's sixth of the season extended her point streak to six games and gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

The Cougars' top line continued to wreak havoc on the Pronghorn defence in the second period, striking twice in less than a minute. The first goal came on the powerplay, as Meszaros sent a cross-ice pace right on the tape for Gavelin, who snapped a shot on net. Anderson made the save but Sawchuk was waiting all by herself on the doorstep to easily net the rebound.Â

The Cougars would score again shortly after, coming in on a three-on-one break into the Lethbridge zone. Gavelin took the puck down the left wing and chipped a nice pass in front. Larson couldn't get a stick on the pass, but Magwood was there waiting, tapping it in to make it 3-0 for the home team.Â

The Cougars continued to press in the third period, but Anderson made a number of nice saves to keep the Cougars off the board in the frame.

Toni Ross wasn't tested often between the pipes but was solid when she was, stopping 22 Pronghorn shots. With the shutout, Ross moves into a tie for second on the school's all-time list with six career shutouts. Anderson made 32 saves for Lethbridge.

The teams will battle again on Saturday, with puck drop slated for 3 p.m.
