Lethbridge – Returning from semester break, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team is looking to get back to the winning ways that kicked off their season as they start the New Year facing the seventh ranked Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.

The 'Horns and Huskies square off Friday and Saturday night at 7:00pm at Rutherford Arena and both games will be webcast on www.canadawest.tv.

The 'Horns (8-7-1) enter the final six weeks of conference play tied for sixth in Canada West but every point from here on out will be crucial in the ultra-competitive Canada West. Only five points separates first and sixth place teams.

After storming out of the gate to open the season, winning seven of their first eight games, the 'Horns hit a rough patch and suffered through a seven-game losing streak but earned a hard fought 2-1 win over the Alberta Pandas to close out 2015.

During the losing streak, the 'Horns offence dried up and are now tied for the fewest goals scored in the conference with 28. The 'Horns are ranked sixth defensively, allowing 37 goals against thus far.

On specialty teams, the 'Horns are ranked third with the power play operating at 16%, ranked fifth in penalty killing (83.6%), and are tied for the most power play goals in the conference with 12.

Lauren Fredrich and Jocelyn Sabourin lead the 'Horns offensively. Fredrich leads the team with five goals and four assists, while Sabourin has registered eight points, which places her fourth among Canada West defenders.

Freshman Alicia Anderson carried the bulk of the load in the 'Horns crease in the first half, starting 14 of the 16 games and holds a 2.30 goals-against average and a 0.929 save percentage. Anderson also has two shutouts.

The seventh ranked Huskies (9-5-2) sit in fourth place, three points ahead of the 'Horns, but have split six of their eight weekend series thus far, including a series earlier this season with the 'Horns in Lethbridge. The 'Horns won the opening game 4-3, before the Huskies began the 'Horns losing streak with a 3-1 win.

The Huskies have played in 11 one-goal games this season and sit in the middle of the pack in both goals scored and allowed. The 'Huskies have scored 36 times, while allowing 35 goals against.

Despite having the fewest power play opportunities in the conference, the Huskies have the conference's top ranked power play at 29%.

The Huskies are led by the conference's fifth leading scorer, Marley Ervine, who has recorded six goals and nine assists through 16 games. Julia Flinton sits second on Saskatchewan's scoring list with three goals and nine assists.

In the crease, the Huskies also heavily lean on one goaltender as Cassidy Hendricks has appeared in 13 of the Huskies 16 games. She holds a 2.24 goals-against average.

The 'Horns return home next weekend to host the Regina Cougars for a pair of games.
