Lethbridge – After opening the season with two losses last weekend, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women's hockey team will look to bounce back this weekend on the road, traveling to Regina to face the Regina Cougars.
The 'Horns and Cougars will face-off Friday night at 7:00pm and Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm. Both games will also be streamed live on
www.canadawest.tv.
At home last weekend, the 'Horns got off to a less than ideal start, dropping both games to a solid Manitoba Bisons team, losing 2-0 and 6-1. Friday night, the 'Horns got into penalty trouble, taking seven minors and both Bisons goals were scored while on the power play.
Saturday, the 'Horns were more disciplined but did take the game's only three penalties. A positive from the weekend was that the 'Horns killed off 8 of 10 Bison power plays but spending that much time killing penalties made it difficult to generate a consistent offensive attack.
A point of emphasis this week for the Pronghorns will be getting pucks to the Cougars net as during the opening weekend, the 'Horns were only able to generate a combined 34 shots on goal in the two games.
Sarah Spence scored the lone goal of the weekend for the Pronghorns and despite allowing eight goals against, Jessica Lohues has a strong weekend between the pipes. Lohues made 46 saves Friday night keeping the 'Horns in the game and made another 43 saves Saturday.
The Cougars, opened the season with two straight wins over Mount Royal University in a battle of the Cougars, winning 4-1 and 3-1.
A balanced attack propelled the Cougars to the victories with seven different players scoring on the weekend and four players enter this weekend with two points.
Second-year goaltender Jane Kish played both games last weekend and turned aside 48 of the 50 shots she faced.
The 'Horns will return home next weekend and host the Saskatchewan Huskies.
