10/13/2016 3:17:00 PM

Lethbridge – Coming off an impressive sweep of the Saskatchewan Huskies that were must win games, the Lethbridge Pronghorn men's soccer team heads to Edmonton to face the Alberta Golden Bears and MacEwan Griffins in games that are no less important.

The 'Horns will take on the CIS top ranked Golden Bears Saturday and conclude the weekend versus the Griffins on Sunday. Saturday's kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm, with Sunday's game set for 12:00pm.

Entering the final two weeks of the regular season, the 'Horns are battling for the final playoff spot, trailing the Saskatchewan Huskies by only one point with four games to play.  The 'Horns and Huskies face the same four teams to close out the season.

This week's CIS Athlete of the Week, Chris Rushworth took over the team's goal scoring lead after a three goal weekend last week and has scored five times this season. Kendell Wiens has four goals, while Stephen Primeau is one behind Wiens with three.

Earlier this season in Lethbridge, the 'Horns lost 3-2 to the Bears, before rebounding to be the Griffins 2-0.

The Bears (12-0-2) enter this week having already clinched a playoff spot and have yet to lose a game. Calgary and UBC are the only teams that have taken a point from the Bears this season. Calgary tied the Bears 3-3 two weeks ago and the Thunderbirds battled the Bears to a scoreless draw in Vancouver during the second weekend of the season.

Last night, the Bears and Griffins faced off in a game that was re-scheduled from October 8th, the Bears completed the season sweep of the Griffins with a 2-0 win.

Ajeej Sarkaria has been tearing up the Canada West this season, already breaking the conference single season record for goals and with his goal last night has 19 goals this season. The previous record of 15 goals was set last season.

The Griffins (1-8-3) have been eliminated from post-season contention and are entering the weekend on a two game losing streak but beat the Mount Royal Cougars two weeks ago, 2-1.

Through 12 games, the Griffins have scored the fewest goal in the Conference with eight and are led by Lahai Mansaray, who has scored exactly half of the MacEwan's goals.

The Griffins have allowed 29 goals this season, the second most in Canada West.

Next week, the 'Horns will wrap up the Canada West regular season, hosting the Calgary Dinos Thursday night at 6:00pm and the Mount Royal Cougars Sunday at 4:00pm.
